Education and Training

Dr. L. Nichols Cook, M.D. attended Ledyard High School, Ledyard, Connecticut (1977). He received his undergraduate degree at the University of South Alabama (1982) with a B.S. in chemistry (cum laude). He attended medical school at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where he received his M.D. in 1986. Following this, he completed his internship (1986-1987) and residency (1987-1989) in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, Norfolk (1990-1993).

Background

Dr. Cook has been happily married to his wonderful Renee since 1986. He became board-eligible in Internal Medicine in 1989, and was first board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1996. He also has professional memberships in American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. L. Nichols Cook, M.D., currently specializes in Cataract Surgery, Laser Surgery, Refractive Surgery for Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism. He also gives a little insight into how he measures success:

“I am in the Happy Patient Business! I strive to give every patient the time he or she needs and have had many patients or their family members tell me that no doctor has ever explained things to them the way that I do. I have performed over 10,000 cataract surgeries, so excellent surgical outcomes are also a major thrust of my practice.”

Hobbies

In his free time, Dr. Cook enjoys amateur radio, volunteering with the Middle and East TN Emergency Radio Service, listening to music, SCUBA Diving, Photography,  and serves as a Deacon at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church.
