dry eyesA recent article in Ophthalmology Times highlights the prevalence of dry eye syndrome, and that it has a substantial negative impact on those affected. In fact, approximately 16 million Americans have been diagnosed with dry eye syndrome, while there are still many others who suffer from troublesome dry eye symptoms that have not yet been diagnosed by an eye doctor.

Dry eye symptoms often include any or all of the following:

  • A burning (or “dried out”) sensation in the eyes
  • Eye grittiness or stinging
  • Watery eyes
  • Red or irritated eyes
  • Pain when wearing contacts
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Blurred or fluctuating vision

Why Halloween Or Over-The-Counter Colored Contact Lenses Are A True Fright

Halloween Contact LensesColored contact lenses are certainly nothing new. Some people wear them to enhance the natural color of their eyes, while others wear them to completely change their eye color from blue to brown, for example. Around this time of year, however, colored contact lenses—and special effects contact lenses made to look like any number of things such as zombies or cat eyes—become popular Halloween costume accessories.

What you need to know is that any contact lenses that promise to make your eyes vampire red or zombie white or any other color may seem like the perfect touch for your costume, but wearing them for even one night of dress-up isn’t worth the risk. (more…)
